President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. made an appearance on Thursday in the Muslim community’s celebration of the holy month of Ramadan, expressing his hopeful aspirations for their spiritual rejuvenation.

In his message, which was released by the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos declared that the season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving presented an ideal opportunity to exemplify the principles of discipline, reverence, and humility. The spiritual belief that the gate of Heaven opens during this sacred month beseeches our brethren to cleanse their souls of the hazards of earthly pleasures and instead seek forgiveness and peace.

Marcos entreated Muslims to extend their prayers to those who are suffering deep distress as a result of famine, natural calamities, and unfavorable circumstances.

“The rituals and services during Ramadhan remind us of our shared moral obligation, irrespective of faith, to compassionately take care of each other, uphold our human dignity, and stand in solidarity,” he remarked.

He also urged Filipinos to promote harmony and unity in diversity. “As a nation enriched with cultural diversity, let us allow our hearts to embrace the profound truth that respect conquers division, understanding obliterates prejudice, and love prevails over all,” Marcos added.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. It is a celebration of the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad of the initial verses of the Qur’an, which is Islam’s holy book, and it is one of the foundations of Muslim faith inscribed in the Qur’an.

Muslims abstain from food during daylight hours throughout this period to bring themselves closer to Allah and to recall the suffering of the less fortunate.
